Our Perspective

Debra Young is an experienced executive coach. Having completed a masters specialising in career-based counselling, she brings a different perspective to coaching. Counselling is usually problem based and coaching is about the future, plans and opportunities. Combining the two allows clients to address any current and past problems and issues that may be holding them back, so they can focus fully on acquiring new skills, creating a vision for the future, and developing an action plan.

“Debra lent a sympathetic and constructive ear during Covid. I found myself quite isolated from the organisation as a whole, and much more micro-managed by a rather toxic, undermining line manager. She coached me to appreciate my worth, and identify and go for opportunities that would open up new avenues for me. It was invaluable to have someone on my side who had an outsiders perspective.

I found the practical exercises she suggested, an effective way to acknowledge and remember everything that I was doing well. I have been able to incorporate these exercises into my working style, and find myself having far more coaching conversations with colleagues.” Director, Private Client

Over the last year, I was transitioning into a new role with more responsibility and I felt I wasn’t completely prepared. I was really lucky to be able to start the coaching sessions with Debra, who greatly helped me to gain confidence and develop further the skills I needed for my new role.” Start-up Director

"I have had the opportunity to consult Debra on several occasions, during my career in the Heritage Museums sector. I found her coaching skills to be invaluable as I navigated the many challenges of the sector. Her measured and incisive approach combined empathy and sound, practical advice. Debra asked exactly the right questions to promote my own understanding of career possibilities and future pathways. Her connection to and relationship with the local and international Cultural sector no doubt enhanced my experiences and I would not hesitate to consult her again." Private Client
